Leading Not-for-Profit Suffers Data Breach

Kaiser Permanente breach exposes data of over 69,000 users.

It is being reported that a Kaiser Permanente employee's email credentials were stolen and email archives were accessed. This employee had PHI (Protected Health Information) in these emails and the information was taken. The types of information accessed includes the patients' first and last names, medical record numbers, dates of service, and laboratory test result information. Read more details here.

This should cause all medical organizations to take note. Regarding email security you may ask yourself:

Are we sending PHI through unencrypted emails?

Are we saving PHI on email servers?

What is our Data Loss Prevention program doing to protect our data?

Would we know if a user's email credentials were stolen?

What can we do to limit the ability of outsiders to access user email accounts?

Tuearis is here to help secure your medical organization. Whether through consulting or managed security services, we have the expertise to help you secure your clients' PHI. Don't hesitate; contact us today!
